Another multibillion natural gas plant planned for Southwest Louisiana, newspaper reports
Venture Global LNG is planning a $4.5 billion natural gas export facility on the mouth of the Calcasieu ship channel, according to a report by the American Press in Lake Charles.
The facility will be able to export 10 million metric tones of liquified natural gas annually and accommodate ocean-going vessels with a LNG carrying capacity of up to 185,000 cubic meters.
The new plant is part of more than $100 billion in announced development in South Louisiana, which is being driven in large part by the natural gas and manufacturing industries. The region is abundant in natural resources, and industry insiders say it’s unique in it’s ability to ship products using deep water vessels.
The Venture Global facility joins other multibillion plants in the Lake Charles area, including a $20 billion Cheniere Sabine Pass LNG plant in Cameron Parish and the $8.1 billion Sasol ethane cracker and derivatives complex in Westlake.
