AMC plans to make Tajganj ‘neat and clean’ in Agra
The Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) has developed a plan to maintain cleanliness in the city. Under the pilot project, the plan will be implemented in seven wards of Tajganj area located around TajMahal. For Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) will contribute funds worth rs 11 crore under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) head.
According to AMC officials, a seminar is going to take place in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh on November 18. Agra is one of the 10 ‘Iconic Cities’ identified by the central government. The move is aimed at overall development of these cities. In the first phase these cities will be made clean and green. For this, a plan for Agra has been prepared. Under the pilot project, the plan will be implemented in Tajganj locality.
The seven wards of Tajganj locality have a total of 30,168 houses and a population of 1.50 lakh. These houses produce around 75 metric tonnes of solid waste every day. There are 96 hotels and restaurants in Tajganj, which produce 15 tonnes of municipal waste on a daily basis. The seven wards have 20 slum areas.
According to the plan, two dustbins of 15 litre capacity will be distributed at each of the houses. People will be advised to put biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste separately in the two dustbins. Each house will be equipped with near-field communication (NFC) chips for proper monitoring of garbage collection. Also, 200 dustbins of 1,100 litre capacity each will be placed in public areas. Door-to-door garbage collection mechanism will be developed using 50 rickshaw trolleys having 50-litre capacity each.
At 10 selected points, modern underground dustbins will be installed. Hydraulic compactors will carry garbage collected from the locality to Kuberpur landfill site. Sweeping machine will be used to maintain cleanliness on small and medium roads in the locality. Cleaning of pavements and footpaths will be done by high-pressure water jet cleaning machine.
SanjeevPradhan, AMC executive engineer (environment) told TOI, “Agra is the only ‘Iconic City’ selected from Uttar Pradesh. Central government has plans to develop these cities on a priority basis. For this, step one is to make the city clean and green. Under the pilot project, the cleanliness plan will be implemented in seven wards of Tajganj locality. We have forwarded a proposal in this regard to GAIL.”
