Altfuels Mexico 2017: Opening Ceremony and Cocktail
The official ceremony of opening of Altfuels Mexico 2017 took place on April 6 and was attended by major authorities of industry and government. Alejandro Gardella, Director of the Altfuels Communications Group (in charge of organizing the event), thanked all attendees, sponsors and the press for their participation.
Stefan Kürschner, President and CEO of Daimler Commercial Vehicles Mexico, commented that his company seeks to be a key player in this event, as it is a space to present the latest in sustainable vehicles.
Ángel Larraga, Vice President of the Mexican Natural Gas Association (AMGN), stated that his entity boosts the development and use of natural gas. “We have a specific commission that gathers the experience of other countries on NGV and we are witnessing the progress made: at the moment many states of the Republic have pipelines or are seeking to develop them, that expansion will enable natural gas become a reality in our country,” he said.
Claudia Gutiérrez, Director of Sustainable Transportation at DINA, recalled when the first Altfuels event was held and explained that they have more than 1,600 vehicles running on natural gas, they are circulation in Veracruz, Querétaro, Monterrey, CDMX and Guadalajara. “We will continue to bet on this type of project,” he added.
Luis Felipe Echavarría, Gazel executive and chairman of AMGN’s NGV committee, said that this is the time for Mexico to bet on alternative fuels. With environmental contingencies, alternative fuels represent the opportunity to reduce pollution by 60%.
Moreover, Enrique Enrich, General Manager of Scania, commented: “Natural gas is the solution for the environmental issue of big cities in the world, it is an economic and environmental fuel and that is why Scania promotes it so much, it is a pride to represent a company that has more than 80 years using this technology and to be one of the leading manufacturers in Europe.”
Jorge A. Longoria Treviño, General Director of the Transportation and Road Agency of Nuevo León, said that his state is the first with natural gas pipelines in the country.
In his participation, Andrés Bayona, President of Energética E3, invited the state, federal and local authorities to follow the example of Nuevo León, Querétaro and Jalisco, which have boosted the consumption of natural gas.
After the speeches, the ribbon cutting and official inauguration of the event took place, and authorities and press toured the Expo pavilion.
