Scania promotes benefits of natural gas mobility in Castilla-La Mancha
Scania organized an event on sustainability in transport in Ciudad Real, Community of Castilla-La Mancha, which aroused the interest of several fleet operators in the region, who could review the automaker’s proposals of, as well as the comments of regional authorities and experts in the field, in terms of environmentally-friendly mobility and adoption of natural gas as a vehicle fuel. “We assume the commitment to reduce emissions as one of our pillars, which is why we currently have the widest range of vehicles powered by alternative fuels, where we highlight the great potential of natural gas. Scania has fully developed the NGV product and technology and our entire network is ready to work with it,” said Sebastián Figueroa, general director of Scania Iberia. Moreover, Patricia Franco Jiménez, Minister of Economy, Business and Employment of Castilla-La Mancha reported that the government has already invested 13 million euros in energy efficiency; while José Luis Cabezas, general director of this Ministry, reviewed the different aid the Community is offering for the acquisition of vehicles powered by natural gas. In addition to presentations by experts from Scania and Gasnam (Iberian Association of Renewable & Natural Gas for Mobility), companies that already have vehicle fleets running on natural gas shared their experience. Jesús Lucendo, from Transcentro Marín, said: “We made an analysis and some calculations to see which sustainable technology interested us most and we saw that the best option for us was LNG. Of course, some of the reasons that motivated the decision were the price of fuel and the competitive advantage of using natural gas in order to obtain operations. Nowadays, with our experience with NGVs, I can say that we have calculated costs savings of 35%.” Pedro Gil Barea, transport manager of El Corte Inglés, also commented: “A few years ago we started looking for sustainable and, at the same time, profitable solutions: solutions throughout the logistics and transport process. For example, we have optimized routes, freight and stops. We believe that it is totally possible to be sustainable, efficient and profitable. We firmly push the use of natural gas, so much so that our goal is to multiply by 10 the kilometers traveled with natural gas to transport of our goods.” The Iberian Peninsula currently offers one of the fastest growing markets in terms of the adoption of natural gas in both road and maritime transport. In this extremely encouraging scenario, AltFuels Iberia 2019 will take place on 11-14 June at IFEMA Trade Center, Madrid.
