Argentina: Scania shows country’s first LNG truck to Energy Secretary
Scania Argentina received the visit of the Secretary of Energy of the Nation Javier Iguacel, who was received by the general director of Scania Argentina Andrés Leonard and the president of Scania Commercial Operations Americas Mats Gunnarsson. One of the goals of the delegation was to see first-hand one of the country’s first trucks powered by LNG. Scania brought to the country the first six LNG trucks, which are destined to Mendoza-based Transportes Andreu S.A., for the transport of LNG, as part of Galileo Group’s virtual pipeline project. “This is the first time that a truck that runs completely on natural gas, more specifically on LNG, has been entered into the country. We are proud to be pioneers not only for introducing new technology into the country, but also because it collaborates directly with the reduction of environmental impact,” Leonard said. He added: “Liquefied natural gas allows a range of more than 1,200 km, equal to any vehicle with diesel engine. In addition to the efficiency and performance that characterizes any Scania engine, the exhaust gases are cleaner and composed mostly of water vapor.” The visit of the Secretary of Energy took place a few days before the 1st Sustainable Transport Forum that the Swedish firm will hold on October 11 in the Auditorium of the Headquarters of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. The event will feature prominent specialists in the field of transport, who will seek to outline a clear pathway for the future in terms of mobility for large cities. The opening of the forum will be in charge of Guillermo Dietrich, Minister of Transport of Argentina. The Forum will have three exchange panels that will address different issues, including the use of alternative fuels in urban transport vehicles to reduce environmental impact. One of the speakers will be the NGV expert Diego Goldin, founder and CEO of Global Gas Mobility. “As important members of the global transportation ecosystem, we seek to generate a favorable environment to jointly search, along with with influencers and decision-makers from public and private sectors, for initiatives that will allow us to develop a more sustainable, efficient and profitable transport,” commented Leonard. It should be added that since September Galileo already uses the same natural gas that it extracts from the fields to refuel its fleet of trucks, while it is moving forward with its program to capture the venting gas and transform it into LNG. “Ours is the first fleet in the country that runs on LNG, and our goal is to install it as an alternative to diesel, because not only costs 50% less but also is less polluting,” said the president of the Galileo Group, Osvaldo Del Campo.
