Italy: Iveco delivers first ten LNG-powered trucks to Smet
Iveco has already delivered 10 Stralis trucks powered by LNG to Smet, a company specialized in the
integrated logistics sector, and over the next three years the manufacturer will supply a total of 330
vehicles, 25% of them powered by LNG. The first 10 units were handed at the Iveco ARA dealership in
Parma, attended by Pierre Lahutte, Iveco Brand President, and Domenico De Rosa, COO of Smet.
“Today’s delivery is testament to Iveco’s far-sighted outlook. For over 25 years, the company has
focused its investments on technological solutions with a low environmental impact, with particular
attention to natural gas, which is currently the best alternative to diesel,” said Lahutte. “Our natural gas
vehicles are also compatible with Bio-CNG and Bio-LNG, so they are capable of providing carbon-neutral
transportation. Hence Iveco and CNH Industrial are supporting the development of biomethane across
Europe and particularly in Italy, where it could be available in near future.”
The LNG vehicles delivered are equipped with a 330 hp Iveco Cursor 8 C-LNG Euro VI engine, a 510-liter
cryogenic LNG fuel tank and four 70-liter CNG tanks that ensure a range of more than 750 km.
Noach Dror, CNH Industrial Vice President of Transport Logistics, also commented: “For us, sustainability
is an essential element when making business decisions about the impact that these have on the
environment, our employees and the communities in which we operate. The strategy that CNH
Industrial pursues is the use of solutions to increasingly lower emissions by 2018 in all major logistics
routes. As of April, Smet will use the LNG Stralis at Suzzara plant in Turin area: this route represents the
first strategic implementation in Italy.”
