HP, Centre agree to NGT proposal for CNG station in Manali
To protect the eco-sensitive area of Rohtang Pass, the Union and Himachal Pradesh governments have agreed to the proposal by National Green Tribunal (NGT) to set up a CNG station in Manali.
During the last hearing on Rohtang pollution case, counsels appearing for different authorities, companies, state and central governments agreed to a proposal to make it possible to supply CNG gas at Manali.
NGT has directed that Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) be responsible for the execution of the project. “However, all other authority present before the tribunal would fully cooperate with them and do not unnecessarily put obstruction in grant of permission and facilitating the compliance of the order of the Tribunal,” it added.
During the last hearing held in Shimla on September 30, NGT had directed the state government to take steps for the complete operation of CNG buses, which on trial basis was found to be satisfactorily operating, for the month of November.
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) too had submitted that they would in consultation with DMRC as well as state government provide CNG gas for operating these buses. Counsel appearing for IGL had also submitted that they would submit a short term and long term plan for providing of CNG gas at Sunder Nagar and Marhi.
Even Himachal Pradesh industries minister Mukesh Agnihotri, too, has announced to install state’s first CNG filling station at Bathu in Haroli area of Una district, following government decision to promote smokeless vehicles and preserve for the preservation of ecology.
