Flow Metrology Workshop 2024

20th March 2024 Wednesday at “Le-Meridien”, Delhi

Natural Gas Society (NGS) in association with FORCE Technology, DNV Technology Centre, and M/s Allport International co-hosted “One day Workshop on Flow Metrology” New Delhi on 20th March 2024.

This workshop provided a unique opportunity for the participants to understand and deliberate on the challenges in accurate gas metering and fair trade / custody transfers by going beyond basic functionalities, testing and certification needs.

During this workshop, the experts from FORCE Technology , DNV Technology Centre, GAIL India Ltd, IGL, FCRI, Yadav Measurements Ltd, KRIBHCO, NFL and users of Natural Gas engaged and deliberated on the key issues faced by the industry.

There was overwhelming response with wide participation of the delegates from Gas Transmission & Distribution Companies, City Gas Distribution Companies, Fertilizers Companies, EPC Companies, Testing Laboratories, Meter Manufacturers, Service providers and government representatives involved with Legal Metrology etc.

Shri Raman Chadha, former CEO GAIL Gas Ltd. & former Executive Director, GAIL was the Guest of Honor on this occasion and inaugurated the event. Shri D V Shastry, ED, NGS welcomed Sh Raman Chadha, senior professionals and the presenters of various papers and all the participants from various organizations. After noble rituals of lighting of Lamps and bouquet presentation, Sh Shastry welcomed everyone and emphasized the importance of gas metering, various aspects related to the accuracy of gas metering and its impact on the business of various stakeholders and on organizations as a whole. He also emphasized the important role played by NGS in this mission.

The workshop provided a unique platform to deliberate the crucial aspects of flow metering like Fundamentals and Importance of Gas Metering, Accurate Metering and Gas Meter Calibration, Meter Classification and Uncertainty, Key findings from Global Research of Measurement and Calibration.

Mr. Marco Hutteman, Senior Team Leader Metrology & Calibration from M/s Force Technology, Denmark in his presentation covered Gas flow calibration at Force Technology, Meter Classification, Meter adjustment with onsite repairs/modifications including Cloud based metering performance management. Mr. Lennart Van Luijk, Senior Flow Metering Specialist from M/s DNV Technology,  Netherlands in his presentation covered Recent advancements in Metrology within the Renewable Energy Sector including the latest developments in Metrology in the Renewable Sector with a focus on H2 and CO2 including Metering Challenges and Innovative Solutions to Mitigate Risks. The GAIL Team presented High-Pressure Natural Gas Meter Calibration facilities at GAIL i.e. Asia’s-renowned High-pressure Open Loop Calibration Facility at Hazira Meter Prover and India’s First & Largest Natural Gas Closed Loop Facility  at Dibiyapur Meter Prover. Mr. Kishor Patel along with Mr. Pankaj Gupta & Mr. Akash Kumar made this presentation as GAIL’s representatives.

 A panel discussion with key-players of the industry on “Importance of Periodic Calibration of Custody transfer Meters. Present Indian/Global Status of Flow Meter Calibration, Challenges and way forward” was also organized. It was chaired by Shri E S Ranganathan, former Director (Marketing), GAIL.  The deliberation highlighted that, the facilities for Calibration and other eco-system would get developed once a regulation is framed for the fair trade practices.

The workshop was concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Harmeet Arora, Managing Director, Alport International for all the participants for attending the Flow Metrology Seminar as the valuable member/delegate, speakers and subject matter experts. Shri Arora specially thanked ED-NGS, Shri V. C. Chittoda, Sr. Consultant, NGS and Shri Satish Geda, Sr. Consultant, NGS for their support right from outset and continual guidance for making the event successful.
