Maruti Suzuki Reports 23% Growth in FY NGV Sales

New Delhi-based auto manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) reports it has sold 62,996 factory-fitted CNG vehicles in FY 2014-15, a growth of 23% over the previous year. The contribution of CNG vehicles to total sales increased to 5.4%, compared to 4.9% in FY 2013-14. Maruti Suzuki, the first company to introduce factory-fitted CNG cars in India in 2010, offers six bi-fuel (CNG+Petrol) models namely Alto, Alto K-10, Celerio, Wagon R, Eeco and Ertiga.

In cities like Delhi and Mumbai where distribution infrastructure is in place and CNG for automobiles is available, almost 50% sales of Wagon R, Eeco and Ertiga are accounted for by the CNG variants.

The CNG variants of Alto K-10 and Celerio were launched in 2014-15.

Maruti Suzuki cars are powered by Intelligent Gas Port Injection (i-GPi) technology, which works on Dual-ECU (Engine Control Unit) technology. The i-GPI technology uses separate injectors for each cylinder. Based on inputs from the ECU, optimum CNG quantity is injected to the engine through gas ports. The quantity of CNG required for different driving conditions is controlled by the dedicated ECU, leading to more efficient fuel usage.
