Tatarstan and Gazprom Initiate LNG Refuelling Network
Meeting in Kazan, Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo, LLC (GMT – Gazprom Gas Fuel) CEO Mikhail Likhachev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov signed an Action Plan to implement a project in the field of small-tonnage production and use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a motor fuel in the Republic.
Tatarstan is the first region in which GMT says it is implementing an integrated approach to the creation of gas fueling infrastructure with solutions for the construction of filling stations delivering both CNG and LNG. A widespread network of cryogenic stations is planned, that will allow refueling of vehicles and machinery. The construction of facilities in the Republic of Tatarstan is in sychronization with the plans of national authorities on the development of gas use in all modes.
GMT intends to replicate the development of regional LNG / CNG value chains for the formation of similar infrastructure projects in other regions of the Russian Federation, where authorities are actively supporting the natural gas for transport strategy.
“Creating an LNG production and distribution infrastructure will form corridors on federal highways of the Republic. In the long term NGV infrastructure built in Tatarstan will be the basis for international gas refuelling corridors linking Europe and Asia,” said Mikhail Likhachev.
In the Republic of Tatarstan, the federal program subsidizing the purchase of equipment, working on motor fuel, has successfully implemented a regional program “Development of motor fuel in the Republic of Tatarstan for 2013-2023 years.”. In 2013, the enterprises of the Republic purchased 262 CNG buses in 2014 according to information provided quotas purchased 319 units of NGV technology.
