Tripura receives 16 ice-lined refrigerators from GAIL India

Dr Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal said Tripura has 152 cold-chain points across the state and to complement the existing infrastructure the Government of India through GAIL has handed over 16 ILRs to the NHM

The Tripura director for National Health Mission Dr Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal received 16 ice-lined refrigerators (ILR) from GAIL (India) Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity here on Thursday.

Speaking with reporters, Dr Jaiswal said that each refrigerator has a capacity of 800 litres which can hold 25,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

“Presently, Tripura has 152 cold-chain points across the state and to complement the existing infrastructure the Government of India through GAIL has handed over 16 ILRs to the NHM,” Jaiswal said.

He also said that the immunisation process is going on across the state and with the new ILRs coming in, it will increase the capacity for storage of the Covidshield vaccines in the peripheral areas of the state.

“The NHM is going to create additional cold-chain points so that the remote location can be covered,” Jaiswal added.

The mission director said that the first phase of vaccination drive started since January 16 and the vaccines need to be stored at a temperature ranging from 2 degrees to 8-degree celsius at the cold-chain points.

Of these 16 ILRs, the state has distributed 12 refrigerators in Dhalai and 4 in Khowai district.

Meanwhile, Biswajit Debbarma, general manager, operation and maintenance, officer-in-charge of GAIL Tripura, said that the decision was made on December 11 last year during the COVID-19 vaccination programme chaired by Secretary DPE and CEOs of 35 CPSES.

“As per the decision, the delivery of the same was supposed to be on December 31. The ILR was delivered here at GAIL Agartala on February 2 for Rs 13.60 lakh and we have delivered the same for state uses to Dr Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, Mission Director NHM,” Debbarma said.

GAIL is the youngest Maharatna Company under the administrative control of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) and is engaged in the transportation, marketing and distribution of natural gas in the country.

In Tripura, GAIL is operating a 60.02 km-long natural gas pipeline network to supply the natural gas to various downstream consumers.
