Pennsylvania-to-New York natural gas pipeline approved

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has given conditional approval to a pipeline that would carry natural gas from northeastern Pennsylvania’s shale fields into New York.

The 30-inch, 124-mile pipeline is a project of The Williams Cos. Inc., Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Piedmont Natural Gas Co. and WGL Holdings Inc.

The pipeline has a capacity of 650 million cubic feet per day. It would take gas from two points in Susquehanna County and transport it to a proposed interconnection with Iroquois Gas Transmission System in Schoharie County in eastern New York.

The line is to be placed into service by late 2015 or early 2016.
