Spain: Endesa officially opens first natural gas station in Murcia

Endesa has officially opened the first natural gas station in the Region of Murcia, located in the facilities of Campillo Palmera (municipality of Molina de Segura). The logistics company is the main customer of the station where it supplies its 15 LNG-powered IVECO Stralis NP 460 trucks, although it plans to expand this fleet in the coming years. With this objective, two other phases of the project are foreseen: installing a CNG dispenser and, in a third phase, putting into operation another additional tank and another LNG dispenser.

The station, which has an LNG plant of 60 m2 and two natural gas dispensers, will also allow refueling other natural gas vehicles and will increase the NGV refueling network in Spain, thus contributing to the decarbonization of the regional transport system. Molina de Segura is one of the main logistics operating bases in Spain, with a ‘city of transport’ that has 29 logistics companies and 164 transport companies, as well as dealerships of the main manufacturers of heavy vehicles.

With this new refueling point, which is already operating and supplying Campillo Palmera’s green fleet since November, Endesa continues to increase its network of natural gas stations. It already has 19 facilities, 11 of them in Spain and eight in France.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Community of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, who highlighted the regional transport sector’s commitment to sustainable mobility and respect for the environment, and that the region has more than 7,200 companies in this sector, with more than 150,000 trucks and vans registered.

On behalf of Endesa, the Director of Business and Public Administration of Enel X Iberia, Miguel Barroso, added: “This type of collaboration reflects how we have to work in increasingly complex environments, where business interests go hand in hand with a society more sustainable. Natural gas for transport is the real, efficient and sustainable alternative to conventional mobility for heavy long-distance transport.”

Endesa is one of the main supporters of sustainable mobility and a pioneer in the promotion of natural gas in the Iberian Peninsula, a region that has experienced great growth in the adoption of CNG and LNG in logistics and commercial fleets. In this extremely encouraging scenario, AltFuels Iberia 2019 will take place on 11-14 June at IFEMA Trade Center, Madrid. It will be an event consisting of first level conferences and exhibition of vehicles of all kinds, refueling stations, components, plants, road and marine engines, as well as the entire universe of the alternative fuels industry with the latest technological developments, multiple options for networking, business and new advances.
